In the future, 10 billion people have to be fed daily. With the current food production capabilities, it will be hard to sustain.
The solution to this would be growing insects. Insects provide more nutrition than current plant-based food to animals. This project looks into the possibility of automating the “growing” and “harvesting” of insects, which can be fed to the animals. When using black soldier flies, between 3 and 20 times less surface area is needed to feed the animals. This is due to the fact that the insects can be farmed vertically, as shown in the image (prototype).
