Are you interested in young people’s lives? Do you want to become an engaging and skillful youth professional? Do you believe that youth participation and talent-based work can make a difference? Are you motivated to learn talent-based methods and skills? Then this minor is exactly what you are looking for! This highly innovative programme responds to the future challenges in youth development.
Recommended for International students, as well as Dutch students, in the fields of social work, psychology and education, with a special interest in youth.
The programme starts with a two-week boot camp where you meet other students, coaches and lecturers. You get an insight of the courses, you will experience the talent-based approach by yourself and get a glimpse into the Dutch approach in youth work. Furthermore we explore individual and group strengths and create an inspiring learning environment.
During the courses you continue working in interdisciplinary learning teams. You learn the core principles of participative youth research. We work on real-life cases, where you learn to apply the talent-based approach with youngsters. By working in an international team, you will acquire the necessary intercultural competences which you can use working with youngsters with diverse backgrounds.
What you can expect from us:
You will participate in six modules in diverse groups consisting of both international and Dutch students. Your lecturers are experienced professionals in their field of expertise. They will share their knowledge and provide intensive coaching. In close collaboration with the pedagogical work field, we create authentic opportunities for learning. We organize learning journeys through the Netherlands where you can observe the unique Dutch approach of youth support and youth care.
What do we expect from you?
As a student you are expected to assume an active role in your own learning process. We invite you to share your ambitions & goals and reflect on your behavior and feelings. You are a member of a learning community, this means that we learn together and value diversity. We trust that every student is independently motivated for personal and professional development. We also assume that students play an active role in supporting other student’s growth.
- The minor will be a full-time-study programme offered in English. All students are expected to have the minimum level of B2 English. This means that students must have knowledge of spoken and written English.
The minimum requirement to apply for the course, is to have passed the first two semesters at bachelor’s level at your relevant university or another institute of higher education.
Fontys will provide the student with a formal ‘Transcript of Records’, which will clarify the results that the student has achieved. Depending on the results, the student can receive a maximum of 30 ECTS credits. ECTS credits are recognized throughout Europe. The agreement between the student’s home university and Fontys University of Applied Sciences will usually include a condition whereby the credits that the student obtains will be recognized and transferred to the records kept by the home university.
How to apply as an exchange student
Applicants should always be referred via the International Exchange (or Erasmus) officer at the home university. This officer will send your application request (nomination) to Fontys. Once Fontys has received and accepted the application, your Fontys Study department will send you a link to a web application called Mobility Online. In addition to the link you will receive all necessary information and a manual.
