"Studying logistics in Venlo is an excellent experience to learn about international business, collaboration across global supply chains, and to enjoy Venlo’s student life."

How did studying at Fontys prepare you for your future career?

The logistics management programme at Fontys Venlo provided me with an excellent education. Both the specific as broad field of international logistics and supply chain management were addressed. The programme is very pratical: it links theory with on the job training and project work focuses on real business cases. Also, the internship and bachelor’s thesis were in real businesses. Besides theory, the programme provides excellent preparation for the students’ future work life with training in project management, team work, communication, organisation, and real life work experience to get a good first impression of different potential job markets.

What is the advantage of a degree at Fontys in comparison to a degree in your home country?

When I chose Fontys Venlo, it was one of the very few programmes specialised in logistics. Although today there are many options, Fontys Venlo still has a distinguished reputation. As the Netherlands and Venlo are logistics hotspots in Europe - close to Europe’s main Sea Ports and the Rhein Ruhr logistics cluster - this is an excellent playground for European logistics students.

What kind of work have you done since leaving Fonty?

After my study and internships at SCA, Geodis and Siemens, I started my work life in 2009 as Project Manager at DB Schenker in Essen and Gothenburg. In 2012, I joined the Smurfit Kappa Group (http://www.openthefuture.info/). After different positions in the logistics and supply chain organisation, I’m now Group Logistics Manager and responsible for logistics procurement, distribution and warehousing operations, logistics IT solutions and the Group’s logistics sustainability strategy.

Do you have tips/suggestions for potential students?

Studying logistics in Venlo is an excellent experience to learn about international business, collaboration across global supply chains, and to enjoy Venlo’s student life. For students, time flies. Plenty of reasons to enjoy the short and challenging time, and making the best out of the many opportunities you’ll get during your studies to shape your future.
