Courses

Sarah Daniali, president of Proxy study association

I believe that Fontys has greatly helped my personal development. From being an introvert that barely speaks her mind to someone who can express her opinions well. The structure of the bachelor programme was perfect for me, both the technical and professional skills I have acquired make me confident in my future career.

Structure and tracks

HBO-ICT is a 4-year broad bachelor programme. In year 1, you’ll start off with a broad orientation on five main study programmes.

When making your application for B-HBO-ICT it means that your first 12 weeks of education you do an orientation on all 5 main (above-mentioned) study programmes. After the first 12 weeks you choose 1 of the main study programmes.

In the first year, you’ll work and learn with other students 5 days a week in an Open ICT Lab. You focus on the 5 main study programmes and work on real-world assignments in groups of 6 students. At the end of the first 20 weeks of class, you will have chosen 1 main study programme to continue with and before the beginning of your second year you choose one or more of the extra specialisations (see below).

You’ll also have the opportunity to choose a learning format that suits you. Learning formats are different ways of acquiring knowledge and skills. They can vary from more structured and predictable, to more open and following the student’s own input.

Important:

The English taught bachelor programme in ICT will be offered at Campus Eindhoven in the so-called Course based learning format. Want to sign up for this study programme? Please first read more about our learning formats.

Study choice check:

As a potential new student you have the opportunity to join our Study Choice Check. Even when you are sure you want to study in one of our ICT programmes it is always good to double-check whether this bachelor programme is your cup of tea. You will be invited to join this free test.

Starting in year 2, you’ll have the opportunity in each semester to choose from a specialisation that best suits you. We’ll guide you in making those choices.

You can choose from the following specialisations:

This allows you to create your personal learning route.

Each semester, you can choose the learning format that best suits you at that time. Read more about our learning formats.

In the first half of year 3, you’ll do an internship with a company. This is the opportunity to really put into practice what you’ve learned during your studies. You’ll carry out one major assignment in the ICT field in which you want to immerse yourself, within a company or organisation of your choice. Of course, we’ll help you decide on your direction.

We have strong partnerships with over 120 companies. We regularly receive offers from companies for suitable internships. You can choose from these, or you can work at a company of your choosing.

Your final year is all about your graduation. You work on a large assignment on the level of a starting ICT professional, with a small research project integrated. You’ll write a thesis and complete your graduation phase with a final presentation at school, in front of your company supervisor and lecturers.

Career prospects

As the world of ICT is changing so rapidly, we may prepare and train you for positions that don’t even exist yet! It’s our priority to ensure that you keep developing yourself. Your future profession also depends on your specialisations. Think of positions such as:

  • business informatics specialist
  • cyber security specialist
  • game developer
  • digital media product creator
  • software engineer

Of course, you can also continue your studies for a master’s degree.

Livia Popper

"Hard work always pays off! I am extremely happy to have done both my internship and graduation assignments in collaboration with Koninklijke Philips N.V. and multiple hospitals around the Netherlands. I specialised in Applied Data Science because data is all around us. This specialisation allowed me to apply machine learning techniques on my projects and assignments. I learned a lot at Fontys and I feel privileged for all the opportunities!".

Costs

The tuition fees indicator helps you to determine the tuition rate for your situation. The information and tuition rates from this indicator are without engagement.

For the 2021-2022 academic year, you can count on a one-time discount on tuition fees from the ‘Nationaal Programma Onderwijs’. Do you want to know what this means for you personally? Check the tuition fees indicator to see how high your tuition fees are for academic year 2021-2022.

A distinction is made between statutory tuition fees and institutional tuition fees. Only if you satisfy all statutory requirements regarding your nationality and if you have not yet been awarded a degree, will you be eligible for statutory tuition fees. Via the tuition fees indicator, you can secure an indication of the type of tuition fees that will be applicable in your situation. To do so, please make use of the indicator above.

Distinctions are made between the following types of Institutional Tuition Fees:
• Low institutional tuition fees
• High institutional tuition fees

These different types of tuition fees and the Exemption Regulations are fully detailed in the

The amount to be paid may vary in accordance with the following situations:
    • If you have enrolled in more than one course programme (at Fontys and/or elsewhere), it is possible that you may only be obliged to pay one set of statutory tuition fees.
    • If you believe that you may be eligible to pay only the statutory tuition fees on the basis of information that may be unknown to us, please report this to your Course Department.
    • If it later transpires that you do not meet the requirements for statutory tuition fees, you will be obliged to pay the (higher) institutional tuition fees and if this is the case, you will be notified accordingly.

Fontys currently offers several scholarships for Non-Eu / Non-EEA students. You might also be eligible for other scholarships not provided by Fontys. These can be found on Grantfinder.nl

    Paying in instalments

Collection will take place in a maximum of ten equal instalments on or around the 26th of the month. Depending upon the processing time required after your enrolment, the direct debit may need to be moved to the following month. If so, the amount outstanding will then be divided and added to the remaining instalments to be executed until and including the June instalment.

If paying the full sum in a single payment

If you commence your studies on 1 September, the direct debit pertaining to your Tuition Fees will be executed on or around 25 September. If you commence your studies after 1 September, the direct debit will be executed on or around the 26th of the month in which you commence your studies.

    Non EU students

Incoming Non EU students will receive a payment letter from their study department which must be paid before the deadline. In the following academic years payment can be done by direct debit.

If you have a Bank account number, of which the bank is not situated in one of the SEPA countries, and you are a national of a country outside the EEA without an address in The Netherlands, then you will receive a paymentletter from Fontys via your course department.

The Dutch currency unit is the Euro (i.e. abbreviated to ‘EUR’ or ‘€’).

The average living expenses per month for a foreign student living and studying in Holland are between EUR 900 and EUR 1,100 per month. These living expenses cover rent, insurance, food, public transportation, books, clothing and other general costs.

Right now we haven't planned new virtual open days. New dates will be planned later this year. We would like to keep you posted about new dates.

Would you like to have a conversation with students of this programme? Are you curious about their experiences? What do they like most about the programme, what do they find difficult? What is it like to study in The Netherlands and at Fontys?

Do you have a specific question about this programme? We are happy to help you!

The situation and guidelines resulting from the corona pandemic are constantly changing, also for higher education. One thing we know for sure: in the new academic year we will have to observe the 1.5 metre distance rule in our buildings and on campus for the time being. We are adapting our education accordingly so that a good mix of face to face education on location and online education is created.
We carefully consider which form of education is best suited to each course, each subject and even each component.
