I believe that Fontys has greatly helped my personal development. From being an introvert that barely speaks her mind to someone who can express her opinions well. The structure of the bachelor programme was perfect for me, both the technical and professional skills I have acquired make me confident in my future career.

Structure and tracks

Information & Communication Technology (ICT) is a 4-year broad bachelor programme.

In the first year, you begin with a broad orientation, during which you also choose your own path.

You work and learn five days a week with other students in an Open ICT Lab, your study environment. In the first half year, you explore the full spectrum of the ICT field and get acquainted with each of the five profiles:

During the first semester, you select one of the five profiles to further specialise in.

Additionally, we offer an accelerated bachelor's programme in ICT & Software Engineering for ambitious students with a secondary school diploma equivalent to the Dutch VWO-diploma and with a background in mathematics. If you choose this programme option, you can complete your bachelor's degree in 3 to 3.5 years and become trained as a software engineer.

The English taught bachelor programme in ICT will be offered at Campus Eindhoven only.

Starting in year 2, you’ll have the opportunity to choose from a main profile or specialisation that suits you best. We’ll guide you in making those choices.

You can choose from the following specialisations:

This allows you to create your personal learning path.

In the first half of year 3, you’ll do an internship with a company. This is the opportunity to really put into practice what you’ve learned during your studies. You’ll carry out one major assignment in the ICT field in which you want to immerse yourself, within a company or organisation of your choice. Of course, we’ll help you decide on your direction. We have strong partnerships with over 150 companies. We regularly receive offers from companies for suitable internships. You can choose from these, or you can work at a company of your choosing .
Your final year is all about your graduation. You work on a large assignment on the level of a starting ICT professional, with a small research project integrated. You’ll write a thesis and complete your graduation phase with a final presentation at school, in front of your company supervisor and lecturers.

Career prospects

As the world of ICT is changing so rapidly, we may prepare and train you for positions that don’t even exist yet! It’s our priority to ensure that you keep developing yourself. Your

future profession also depends on your specialisations. Think of positions such as:

  • Embedded Software Engineer
  • Field Service Engineer
  • Software Developer
  • Cyber Security Specialist
  • Cloud Engineer
  • Support Engineer
  • Business Intelligence Consultant
  • Informatiemanager
  • Front-end Developer
  • User Experience Designer
  • Game Developer
  • Digital Marketeer

Of course, you can also continue your studies for a master’s degree.

"Hard work always pays off! I am extremely happy to have done both my internship and graduation assignments in collaboration with Koninklijke Philips N.V. and multiple hospitals around the Netherlands. I specialised in Applied Data Science because data is all around us. This specialisation allowed me to apply machine learning techniques on my projects and assignments. I learned a lot at Fontys and I feel privileged for all the opportunities!"

      Transition from MBO to HBO
Would you like to study at Fontys after graduating from MBO? Are you interested in knowing more about the transition to higher professional education, the study load, and the kind of work you can do after graduating? Look for more information on:  fontys.nl/mbo.

HBO-ICT internship: for a successful transition from MBO to HBO
Do you (almost) have an MBO-4 diploma and are you unsure whether you’re able to transition to HBO? Follow our HBO-ICT internship, which makes the step from MBO to HBO much easier. During a period of six months, you’ll follow classes with us one day a week, and you’ll learn about all the majors within HBO-ICT. You can get used to the level and attitude that’s needed to study on an HBO level. You’ll also get to know the content of the programme. The programme starts twice a year: in February and September.

We’ve made partnership agreements with a number of MBO schools. These include ROC ter Aa, ROC-Gildeopleidingen, ROC Leijgraaf, ROC Sint Lucas, ROC Summa, and ROC Tilburg. If you attend one of these schools, you can participate in the HBO-ICT internship. You may also be able to participate if you’re a student at another MBO school. We’ll arrange this in consultation with your school.

      Other diplomas:

      Fast entry?
Do you have a lot of relevant knowledge or work experience? You may qualify for accelerated entry. Click here for more information, or get in touch with us!

Are you a Dutch student and do you want to pursue the Bachelor's degree in ICT in Dutch in either Eindhoven or Tilburg, but do not meet the admission requirements and are older than 21 years? In that case, you are required to take a Dutch 21+ test, which consists of two parts.

Once you have successfully completed part 1, the intellectual capacity test (ACT), you will need to take part 2, a Dutch language test. Both of these tests are facilitated by Fontys. Click here for more information.

If you have Dutch nationality and wish to pursue the Bachelor's degree in ICT in English in Eindhoven, but do not meet the admission requirements and are older than 21 years, you will need to take an English 21+ test. For this, you only need to complete the intellectual capacity test (ACT). If you pass this test, you will need to independently obtain an English language proficiency test (IELTS, TOEFL, or Cambridge certificate). Fontys does not offer this language test.

The dates on which the ACT test is administered at Fontys can be found here.

To take a language proficiency test, you can contact IELTS, TOEFL, or Cambridge organisations. More information about the minimum scores required can be found here.

You are responsible for taking the language test in a timely manner, and the costs for this are currently your own responsibility. In the Netherlands, these tests are offered by various providers, such as:

Please note: There may be a period of a few months between taking the ACT and completing the language test. It’s compulsory to apply for the language test in advance; sufficient preparation time is also required. Many tests are offered at different prices, so it’s advisable to enquire in good time and to compare them.

        Costs

The tuition fees indicator helps you to determine the tuition rate for your situation. The information and tuition rates from this indicator are without engagement.

Statutory tuition fees and institutional tuition fees

A distinction is made between statutory tuition fees and institutional tuition fees. Only if you satisfy all statutory requirements regarding your nationality and if you have not yet been awarded a degree, will you be eligible for statutory tuition fees. Via the tuition fees indicator, you can secure an indication of the type of tuition fees that will be applicable in your situation. To do so, please make use of the indicator above.

Distinctions are made between the following types of Institutional Tuition Fees:

        • Low institutional tuition fees
        • High institutional tuition fees

Different types of tuition fees and Exemption Regulations

These different types of tuition fees and the Exemption Regulations are fully detailed in the:

The amount to be paid may vary in accordance with the following situations:

            • If you have enrolled in more than one course programme (at Fontys and/or elsewhere), it is possible that you may only be obliged to pay one set of statutory tuition fees.
            • If you believe that you may be eligible to pay only the statutory tuition fees on the basis of information that may be unknown to us, please report this to your Course Department.
            • If it later transpires that you do not meet the requirements for statutory tuition fees, you will be obliged to pay the (higher) institutional tuition fees and if this is the case, you will be notified accordingly.

            Paying in instalments

Collection will occur in a maximum of ten equal instalments on or around the 26th of the month. Depending upon the processing time required after your enrolment, the direct debit may need to be moved to the following month. If so, the amount outstanding will then be divided and added to the remaining instalments to be executed until and including the June instalment.

If paying the full sum in a single payment

If you commence your studies on 1 September, the direct debit pertaining to your Tuition Fees will be executed on or around 25 September. If you commence your studies after 1 September, the direct debit will be executed on or around the 26th of the month in which you commence your studies.

            Non-EU students

Incoming non-EU students will receive a payment letter from their study department, which must be paid before the deadline. In the following academic years, payment can be made by direct debit.

            Non-SEPA

If you have a Bank account number of which the bank is not situated in one of the SEPA countries, and you are a national of a country outside the EEA without an address in The Netherlands, then you will receive a payment letter from Fontys via your course department.

Before starting your study at Fontys, you must find suitable housing. Unfortunately, it is not easy for international students to find accommodation in the Netherlands due to the housing crisis. Start your accommodation search early. Please be aware that finding a place to live is your own responsibility. However, we are happy to assist in any way we can.

The Dutch currency unit is the Euro (i.e. abbreviated to ‘EUR’ or ‘€’).

The average living expenses per month for a foreign student living and studying in Holland are between EUR 1,100 and EUR 1,500 per month. These living expenses cover rent, insurance, food, public transportation, books, clothing and other general costs.

Dutch Immigration Service (IND) requires non-EEA students to proof they have access to € 14.641 per year (€ 7.320 per semester)

Costs within the first months upon arrival will be higher than all other months due to a housing deposit, intro week and books. Study books are usually bought at the start of the semester and therefore it is wise to reserve and have direct access to an amount at the start of the semester which can cover the price of all study books and the living expenses for the first two months.

Some Fontys study programmes offer the Holland Scholarship to their students. Check out the link to see if this study programe participates and for more information.

You might also be eligible for other scholarships not provided by fontys. These can be found on Grantfinder.nl
