Marwan about IEM

My name is Marwan Almansory and originally I’m from Cairo, Egypt. In my home country I graduated from an American High School. During my senior year I studied Physics and Calculus in preparation for an Engineering major. I wanted to study in an interesting environment and was researching more about the Brainport region and Eindhoven. I really liked what I saw and decided to go study Industrial Engineering and Management.

"You really understand why Industrial Engineering is so vast and can be applied to almost all situations on a professional and even personal level."

For me, studying in the Netherlands is challenging. You get to attend lectures of course, but the most interesting part is being exposed to real-life company challenges in different projects. You also get to visit companies that show you the different types of management and business processes being applied, based on how well it fits the company’s organization and culture. You really understand why Industrial Engineering is so vast and can be applied to almost all situations on a professional and even personal level.

"Working with other students in a group teaches you to be more collaborative, outgoing and respectful of others work and opinions."

Project 5/6 I liked the most. It was about improving a company’s process. You get to learn how to be able to analyse and work on finding the best solution possible. Working with other students in a group teaches you to be more collaborative, outgoing and respectful of others work and opinions. It is really cool to meet a diversity of people and different cultures. You get the opportunity to know and work with people from all over the world.

Teachers feel more like guides who are not only there to help you on a professional level, but also on a personal level. That’s nice about the Dutch culture. Other cultural aspects were difficult for me at first, especially since I am never on time and that is not the Dutch way. But you get used to it!

If you are looking for a challenging program in an interesting environment, this study program is a good pick. If you really want to be pushed to your limits but also want to follow interesting and fun courses with a bright future, then definitely research more about Fontys and Industrial Engineering and Management in the Brainport region.
