Electrical & Electronic Engineering

As a student you are trained to become an electronic engineer in product design. Designing has an intrinsically multidisciplinary character and requires technology based knowledge but also project management skills. The bachelor program EEE offers an integrated approach of these skills by project based learning (EXPO* and IPD*) and subject-specific courses. Communication subjects and Integrated Project Management are part of the curriculum. The Fontys EEE bachelor program with a focus on designing electronic systems is unique in the Netherlands. (*EXPO stands for: Engineering eXPerience Organisation; IPD for Integrated Product Development). The total study programme of 4 years is split up in: - the Propaedeutic phase (1 year) - the Core phase (3 years). The curriculum of the EEE bachelor program is offered in the context of 4 themes:

Do you want to be active with light and sound technologies? In the bachelor program EEE you can take part in projects specifically aimed at sound (and light) engineering. Student JP Cardoso (Brasil) explains why Sound Engineering is great. For more information click here.

In all themes a business orientation is part of the programme. The first and second year programme offers you a range of projects belonging to the themes mentioned above. Students will have the opportunity to find out and explore what Electronic Engineering is about. The complete bachelor proramme consists of 8 semesters which offer a mix of theory (40%), practicals in laboratories (30%) and projects (30%). For an example video of a Care and Cure EXPO project click here. Two internships of 100 days each including thesis writing in a company are part of the bachelor programme. These internships are planned in semester 5 and 8.

Research at Fontys University of Applied Sciences

Applied research is an important component in the EEE curriculum: right from the beginning you learn what it means to work with real assignments from companies in order to improve certain technologies or products or even come up with new innovative technologies. Also our teachers are constantly involved in cooperation programmes with University of Technology Eindhoven (our neighbor) and the implementation of lectureships. The starting point is to realize an exchange of students in development with people from the academic world and the working field. The outside world consists of the working field, universities but also financed projects like specific subjects of research.

The honors programme PROUD stands for: PRogramme OUtstanding Development where excellent students are selected and will get more out of their study through company coaches in the field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. For more information about PROUD click here. This programme is a scientific preparation programme that prepares students to stream up more easily in a master programme at University of Technology Eindhoven (TU/e). Students will do TU/e pre-master courses in paralell with the Fontys bachelor courses. Enrollment in PRIDE can reduce the study time for both bachelor and master study with 1 full year.

In the 3rd year of your bachelor programme EEE you will do the first internship in a company and you will do your minor program. All Fontys UAS full-time bachelor's degree programs consists of a major and a minor. The major is the core of the program and provides the basic program. The major EEE will prepare you for your future profession.
The minor is a choice program of 1 semester. As a full-time student, you can opt for a broadening Fontys minor in any study field or you choose for a deepening minor offered by EEE, for example related to Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering. The choice is yours. Even minors outside Fontys UAS and abroad are possible. With the minor you give your study an extra boost.

In the 4th year of your bachelor programme EEE you will do your specialization semester. You can compose your own programme of 30 credits and you can choose from the following elective subjects (each have a workload of 4 credits):
    - Advanced Analogue Design
    - Digital System Design
    - Advanced Telecommunications
    - Advanced Control Systems
    - Business Economics
    - Management in Engineering
    - EEE7/IPD projects (10 credits)

The second semester of the 4th year will be your graduation internship period. Normally you will work and study in a company;including bachelor thesis writing. At the end of the programme you will have achieved 240 credits which will lead to the allocation of the Bachelor of Science degree.

    Fontys UAS Engineering and Automotive

Electrical & Electronic Engineering is one of the 4 bachelor programmes which are offered by Fontys UAS Eindhoven Campus. The other bachelor programs are: Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering and Automotive.Programs are in close collaboration with each other and for EEE students this means that during your studies you work together in projects with students from different disciplines and not only with students from the ICT/mathematics department. Thus students are prepared well for their internships and future jobs in companies like ASML and Philips where integration of different engineering disciplines is part of the regular working procedure.
