After the dream of every classical music student, a job in the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, came true, Gisella Bergman preferred to live up to her "core quality": the teaching profession. She therefore gave up her job at the KCO in order to be able to devote herself entirely to teaching. As a student she taught at the Zeeland Music School, where she talked about how important it is to teach each viola student to play his instrument as well as possible from the very beginning. Because of her years of experience in this field and the results she achieved with her students, she was asked to come and teach at the conservatory both in Rotterdam and in The Hague.
Now, almost 40 years after she taught her first viola lessons, she is a principal subject teacher in viola at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Tilburg. In the summer Gisella organizes her own courses in Witteveen, Drenthe. She is a member of the instruments committee of the National Fund for Musical Instruments and is regularly asked to participate as a committee member in competitions at home and abroad. Gisella Bergman is chairman of ESTA-Netherlands (European String Teachers Association).
