Research and education
The Fontys research agenda is an integral part of the quality agenda for education: research is positioned in such a way that it contributes to the continuous improvement in the quality of education. Fontys opts to link all research to education.
Research at Fontys is practice-based and innovative. It is aimed at the renewal and improvement of the professional practice for which education is provided and is elaborated in close consultation with the work field, preferably in regional knowledge networks. Research contributes directly to curriculum innovation. The interaction between education and research results in teaching staff forever at the forefront of the development of their subject field. By being trained in practice-based research, the graduates from Fontys are professionals with the skills needed for acquiring knowledge, developing new knowledge and disseminating knowledge in professional practice.
Three ambitions for 2015 inherent to this new policy have been identified:
- By 2015, all (bachelor) curriculums will contain learning profiles for research skills so that all students come into contact with practical research.
- Research will have a direct influence on the curriculums and teaching staff will be actively involved in practice-based research via knowledge groups of associate professorships.
- As a consequence, within all Fontys courses of study, research will be a self-evident element for both teaching staff and students.
