Knowledge & research
Applied research
At the Fontys Hogescholen, in addition to the provision of Education and Service, Research is one of the three primary processes. Fontys aims to be the connecting link between professional areas and knowledge areas. As an institute of knowledge, Fontys also aims to contribute to development and innovation in professional practice via both the creation of knowledge and the circulation of knowledge. Thereby, research demands hail directly from companies and organisations operating in the region.
PhD candidates
The professionalisation of teaching staff, including the promotion of teaching staff, is one of the methods by which Fontys aims to achieve its research ambitions. For existing teaching staff, facilities that can be utilised during working hours are in place for advancement in subjects that are relevant to the education provided by Fontys. In addition, Fontys employs the services of a large group (i.e. 72 individuals) of young PhD candidates. These individuals are recently graduated academics who, on behalf of Fontys, conduct promotional research and during this period, to some degree, they participate in educational practice.
Both of these promotional trajectories are executed in collaboration with a number of partner universities. The promoters in question are also connected to these universities and the actual promotional activities are also conducted at the relevant university locations.
