All foreign students are entitled to reside in furnished accommodation of a similar standard and price as that utilised by local students. Typically, this would be in the form of a private room, with bathroom and kitchen facilities to be shared with other students. As universities in The Netherlands do not typically have American-style campuses with student dormitories, your student room would be located off-campus, in the city of Eindhoven, Tilburg or Venlo, but always within ‘cycling distance’ of the relevant campus.
For international students, accommodation (furnished student flat/ room) in the Eindhoven area can be arranged by Fontys University. Accommodation will be directly available to you upon your arrival in The Netherlands. Typically, a rental amount between 300 and 400 Euro per month would provide you with:
- a room of 3.5 x 4 metres;
- includes electricity, gas, and water charges;
- rooms are normally furnished with a bed, wardrobe, chair and a desk;
- kitchen and bathroom facilities are generally shared with other students.
You will be required to sign a rental contract with the housing corporation, housing agency or property owner for the full semester. Fontys does not charge any fees for mediation and/or reservation costs, but of course, you will need to pay rent to the relevant party. Typically, the average rental price for such student accommodation amounts to approximately EUR 300 to EUR 400 per month. In addition, you will usually be requested to pay a deposit that will be reimbursed to you at the end of the rental period if your rent has been paid in full and the property has not been damaged.
Application for Accommodation
Only after your enrolment at our University has been succesfully finalized, you will receive an appplication form to request us to arrange accomodation for you in the Netherlands.
- Please note that by signing and submitting this form, you will be authorising Fontys to arrange accommodation for a specified period (normally one year) on your behalf.
- Download Housing for more information
After the first year students will have to find accomodations themselves; normal rents then vary between 200 and 400 Euro per month.
Currently, there is a shortage of student accommodation in The Netherlands. Therefore, unless you have friends or family living here, it is unlikely that you will be able to secure accommodation without assistance from Fontys.
