Fontys University of Applied Sciences and the use of computer facilities and the Internet Fontys University of Applied Sciences makes computer facilities and networks available to its students and employees for learning and working at Fontys. Fontys does this subject to specific conditions. These conditions are laid down in a code of conduct. A number of important issues from the code for students are as follows: - Fontys forbids the use of its computer facilities and networks for activities not relating to learning or working at Fontys. A number of examples of forbidden use: hacking (breaking into other computers), theft (stealing data, illegal copying of software, violation of copyrights); misrepresentation; calls to violence and other criminal activities; publishing racist comments; retrieving or sending pornography, etc.
- Fontys believes that its computer facilities should not be used in an unsuitable manner. A number of examples of unsuitable use are: if you spend the whole day downloading MP3 files; you will be occupying a computer that is intended for learning. In addition you will place heavy demands on the network as a result of which others may be delayed. It is however possible that downloading a music fragment is learning material for one student while for others it is merely entertainment. Fontys asks that you consider the situation and take account of others.
- Under all circumstances, Fontys assumes that computer use for school always takes priority for example over playing computer games, private chat sessions, etc.
- Fontys does not permit programs for private applications (MSN, MSM, Kazaa, etc.) to be installed on its computers.
 - Fontys requests that you do not impose any unnecessary demands on the computer; if you leave the computer to do something else, or if you are finished, always shut the computer down.
- Fontys recommends that if you need a computer for a longer period of time or need to download very large files, you do this in the morning, in the evening or on Saturdays, if possible. Do not plan everything during peak hours between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. There is almost no computer time available during these hours.
- Fontys has lots of computers. In other words: if you cannot use a computer in your own course area, check whether there is a computer free elsewhere. The rule is: students within their own department always have priority. Remember this fact!
- The complete code of conduct is due to be published on the Legal Affairs site in the near future. Also if you log on to the Fontys network, you will regularly be referred to this code. In the event of deliberate violation of the code of conduct of Fontys University of Applied Sciences, sanctions may be imposed. Suspension and/or reporting to the police are possibilities.
